Speak Life Community Block Party

Join us for a day of fun, community engagement and education !

The Speak Life platform was created in response to growing suicide rates, especially rates in the Black community. We understand that our target communities deeply believe that the tongue yields power. We wanted a chance to act on this principle and change the negative perception that “speaking or talking about suicide will make it happen”. Our goal is for the power of the tongue to be used to speak life, encouraging those suffering in silence to seek help.

If you would like to be a sponsor for this event or for additional information reach out to LaTasha Jackson at l.jackson@jehfoundationfw.org

We can’t take mental health lightly - we have to take it seriously. Talking saves lives

Depression Doesn’t Take a Summer Vacation

In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month join The Jordan Elizabeth Harris Foundation with special guest Dr. Jose Lopez. We will be focusing on Understanding Life Transitions: Supporting Students at the End of the School Year.

As the school year wraps up, many students face big changes—graduations, new schools, shifting routines. This presentation will offer valuable insight for parents and caregivers on how to support young people during these transitions.

Dr. Lopez will explore effective strategies through a system lens, looking at the roles of family, friends, school, and social networks in helping students thrive.

Speak Life QPR Breakfast

We know there is a massive silence and stigma related to the conversation of suicide and depression in many of our communities. Many believe the tongue has power, therefore feeling that talking about suicide would cause a person to attempt to take their life. When we know it’s the opposite, people want to be heard, and we all have the power to “Speak Life” into them.

Did you know that Black youth under the age of 13 are twice as likely to die by suicide than their peers of other racial demographics ?

The U.S. Black population experienced an 18.8% increase in age-adjusted suicide rates during 2018-2021 and a 39.1% increase among Black persons aged 15-29.

Soul Shop for Leaders

Are you a church leader with no idea how to talk about suicide with your members?

Do you work with a faith-based community and would like more tools to facilitate a suicide or mental health conversation?

Are you just interested in the intersectionality of faith and suicide or depression?

If the answer is “yes” then Soul Shop for Leaders is for you

Soul Shop is a one-day workshop designed for faith-based leaders and those who work with faith-based communities to learn suicide awareness, the skills for a basic suicide conversation, how to cultivate a soul-safe culture, and how to encourage those that you serve to be willing to share their stories.

The Jordan Elizabeth Harris Foundation is not a faith-based organization, we understand that faith communities are perfectly positioned to identify and respond to the needs of individuals in their communities, including those involving
suicide. Therefore, our objective is to use this training to teach the skills needed to better serve those
experiencing suicidal desperation by facilitating the dialogue about the intersection of faith and suicide prevention
.

Lunch and light snacks will be served
